SHOULDERING A VICTORY
Brandon Montour (left) showed that adversity wouldn’t stop his determination to win the Stanley Cup. After a breakout season in 2022-2023, when Montour set a franchise single-season record for defensemen with 57 assists and 73 points, he underwent shoulder surgery in the offseason. Montour missed the first 16 games of the 2023-2024 season and, though his production tapered, he still scored 33 points in 66 games. Come playoff time, Montour was back to his clutch ways. He recorded 11 points, plus 85 combined hits and blocked shots, in 24 postseason games. “Personally, I thought I was stronger than that. It’s heavy!” Montour said about hoisting the Cup post-surgery. “This team deserved this the last couple of years, words can’t describe it really. But to lift that, shoulder surgery or not, this is worth it for real.”
