In their first regular-season game at the National Car Rental Center (now Amerant Bank Arena), the Panthers defeated their cross-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning, by a score of 4-1. Viktor Kozlov and Mark Parrish each had two goals for the Panthers.
