After nailing the Rat Trick and leading Florida to the 1996 Stanley Cup Final, the Panthers named Scott Mellanby team captain in 1997. He remained in the role until 2001.

Scott Mellanby notched his 100th goal for the Panthers with this two-piece aluminum stick in a 3-3 tie with the Toronto Maple Leafs at home. He would ultimately score 157 goals for the club, making him one of the top goalscorers in franchise history.
